Folly Field was developed in 1953 when the first vacation cottages were built there. This was done by the Hilton Head Company whose goal was to increase ferry traffic so that the government of South Carolina would be convinced to build a bridge. This would then allow visitors and new residents easier access.
Folly Field is centrally located on Hilton Head Island between Port Royal and Palmetto Dunes and has beach access. Folly Field is a non gated area where you will find oceanfront and ocean oriented homes. There are also home sites and condominium complexes that are oceanfront or located within a short stroll to the beach.
Also featured is the Islanders Beach Park which amenities include beach access, boardwalk, outdoor showers, picnic area, playground and restrooms. One can purchase a beach parking pass if you live or own property within town limits. If you do not have a beach pass, there are metered parking spaces.
